Q1 2024 Performance of Top Tax Apps on iOS in the US

As tax season ramps up, Americans turn to their trusted apps for tax preparation and planning. Utilizing data from Sensor Tower, we've observed the performance of the top five iOS tax apps in the United States for the first quarter of 2024.

TurboTax: File Your Tax Return led the pack with impressive numbers. Downloads peaked in late January at nearly 400K and then gradually decreased to just over 100K by the end of March. Revenue showed a steady increase from $156K to $249K in mid-March before leveling off to $194K. Weekly active users followed a similar trajectory, spiking at over 1M in late January and then slowly declining to around 700K by the quarter's end.

IRS2Go showed robust download numbers, with a notable peak of over 145K in mid-February, then tapering to around 44K by late March. The weekly active users for IRS2Go remained strong, starting at around 656K and reaching a high of over 1M in mid-February, before stabilizing just above 800K.

MyBlock experienced a surge in downloads in late January at nearly 97K and then saw a gradual decline to around 26K by the end of March. Weekly active users peaked at over 120K and decreased to nearly 75K, maintaining a steady user base throughout the quarter.

The H&R Block Tax Prep: File Taxes app's revenue trended upwards from $88K to $121K in mid-February, then stabilized around $107K towards the end of March. Downloads saw a significant jump in late January, reaching over 84K, and then followed a downward trend to just over 20K. The weekly active user count increased until the end of January with over 52K users and then gradually decreased to just above 21K.

Lastly, Keeper: tax filing & expenses began the quarter with over 14K downloads, which decreased to around 3K by late March. Revenue showed a modest increase from $71K to $98K in mid-February and then fluctuated slightly, ending the quarter at $89K. Weekly active users started at approximately 58K and saw a decrease to around 42K by the quarter’s end.
